What did you want with me storm-ridden woman? What did you want with the best of my soul? What was there left for me when you were finished now that this tempest has swallowed me whole? I don't know why I care for you with all this weather you have put me through out of breath but always into harm I'm not complete if your not in my arms What did you want with me storm-ridden woman? What did you want with the best of my soul? What was there left for me when you were finished now that this tempest has swallowed me whole? I'm leaving on the midnight train but I know I can not outrun the rain I'll leave my ghost here to look for you 1000 forest doors need searching through Well the skies are looking strange and the squall is here again What did you want with me storm-ridden woman? What did you want with the best of my soul? What was there left for me when you were finished now that this tempest has swallowed me whole? I feel the pressure on the rise saw the tender flashing of your eys both known what our fate is all along: keep each other's tattered heart from harm What did you want with me storm-ridden woman? What did you want with the best of my soul? What was there left for me when you were finished now that this tempest has swallowed me whole? Would you come back to me storm-ridden woman would arrive with the sky crashing loud the lightnng will crack and it shows me you soaring borne by the winds on the crest of a cloud

Let It Pass 03:52
I know your secrets and I know your real name. We've been together we'll be that way again. Raise your arms to the horizon, sweep the clouds away. We're forever cast in that moment, forever bound by today. Just take a step over it, take a step let it pass. Let the future be the future, let the past be the past. I went to the city and yelled up to the man at the gate. Let go the one inside there, the spring is in the air and I can't wait. She walked with me to watch the stars fall, too quietly we tempted fate. We need to laugh out loud and let the thunder, shake those walls and bend them straight. Just take a step over it, take a step let it pass. Let the future be the future, let the past be the past. But oh, that light in the morning. When both our houses are asleep. The snow glows gold and pools like so many islands. The secret of your heart is mine to keep. Just take a step over it, take a step let it pass. Let the future be the future, let the past be the past.

My Longing 04:14
My longing goes out to the street, down to the river, over the fields, to end at your window, under your window. Come to your window. Does your longing go over the fields, down to the river, onto my street, to end at my window, under my window? I'd open my window. It's no surprise to me, we don't see things differently, when everything about you is the same in me. And we know each other's mind, no need to read between the line, when everybody tells me we're two of a kind. Oh and what a kind, what a kind. My longing goes out to the street, down to the river, over the fields, to end at your window, under your window. Come to your window. Does your longing go over the fields, down to the river, onto my street, to end at my window, under my window? I'd open my window. And what a time we've had, this kind of feeling can't be bad, despite the mountains that we've had to cross to reach this land. And what they're saying might be true, that it's all because of you. Sometimes you can't break that spell no matter what youdo. No matter what I do, no matter what I do. My longing goes out to the street, down to the river, over the fields, to end at your window, under your window. Come to your window. Does your longing go over the fields, down to the river, onto my street, to end at my window, under my window? I'd open my window.

The moon is slowly setting, and with the brightning of the sky, another day is dawning, where my true love lies. In the silence of the forest, the wind is in the leaves, I think her singing, over the fields to me. I said to her, here's my heart, hold it to you when you think of me. I said to her, here's my soul, hold it you, when you remember me. The sun is in the heavens, warmth risies from the land, I offered her my future, I offered her my hand. Soon the moon wil rise and, the day is on the wane. I look to the horizon, and think of her again. I said to her, here's my soul, hold it to you when you think of me. I said to her, here's my heart, hold it you, when you remember me. A fog is on the river, the mist is in the trees, I thnk I see her walking, over the fields to me. She'scoming here to me. I said to her, here's my name, bring it along when you come to me. I said to her, here's my soul, bring it along when you come to me. I said to her, here's my heart, I'll take yours, when you come to me.

Tempest Tost 03:43
Through the heat of the summer, lightning tracked cross the sky. And he drove through that deluge, just to look in her eye. He could barely believe it, but with teh touch of her hand, they were bothe of them reaching, for a place they could stand. First he sobs and now he sings and now he beats upon a drum. When he stops can he believe the kidn of man that he's become. There are fires on the mountain. There are floods in the plain. Water flows from a fountain, the crane sings in the shade. As they crossed the great water, they were fused into one. But with bloody forgiveness, they both were undone. First she sings and now she sobs and now she beats upon her drum. When she stop scan she forgive, the kind of woamn she's become. Now the cold has descended, under grey skies above. he holds tight to that memory, she hold tight to that love. And with the whispers of warming, of the innocent sun, a new day is dawning and the return has begun. First they smile and then they touch, and then they float over the fields. And after all the storms have passed they're both stronger when they yield.

I don't even, want to hear the reason,. why you won't be there, It's enough to know you're not. I can't believe the things I do for you, my heart is bending. I passed through this prism, so afraid but still attached. Life on the spokes. Your position, seem more like conditions. Can you force your eys towards the truth and stay there? Life under the thumb has tolls, that tax and waste away the best. Can you go through that prison soul unscathed and heart intact? Life on the spokes. Watching the clouds mass on Sunday morning. Feel your presence in the air. Watching the light scrape the empty sidewalks. Feeling like my soul's laid bare. But I still care. I don't even, want to hear the reason,. why you won't be there, It's enough to know you're not. I can't believe the things I do for you, my heart is bending. I passed through this prism, so afraid but still attached, life on the spokes.

Do you remember the night you went dancing at Mardi-Bra? You had me on standby so we could sneak home. I saw the fear on your face when you thought I'd abandoned you, turn to joy that i'd not ever leave you alone. Now I don't want to think about anything. Don't want to think about anything, Don't want to think about anything. yah yah yah. Do you remember the time we stood at the old house door, both of us looking out over the land? I was holding you close and we had the same future then, working our nerve up to just make our stand. Now I don't want to think about anything. Don't want to think about anything, Don't want to think about anything. yah yah yah. I could never feel closer. To anyone's heart. Never thought for a moment, that we'd ever part.. Now I don't want to think about anything. Don't want to think about anything, Don't want to think about anything. yah yah yah. Pour me more wine, pour me more wine I'm empty, so empty.

The Thread 01:40
The thread that held this quilt together, the silken lace and the golden train, has broken and I don't know whether, I can ever make it whole again. The pilot that gave these charts their meaning, has gone away and won't be back it seems. All I have is this rusty compass, all our passages are fading into dreams. Away, to some landfall, where she might be released from my expectations, and we'll both find some peace. I lost the thread, that kept this quilt together, the silk, the lace and the golden train. I'll gather them and keep them safe that, I may think of her again.

Who'll be there, when no one is around? Who'll pick your crazy heart up off the ground? I hear it calling, calling, calling through the night when you don't even make a sound. You're the reason why I stick around. Driving down the highway put your i-phone in that empty coffee cup. Play your favourite song, I smile inside when I see your eyes light up. Smiling out the window as you watch the sunlight play across the trees. Look at my reflection you can see exactly what you mean to me. Who'll be there, when no one is around? Who'll pick your crazy heart up off the ground? I hear it calling, calling, calling through the night when you don't even make a sound. You're the reason why I'm in this town. Nobody knows, what you're going to do. Everybody knows, I'm a fool for you. Driving down the detours of old Montreal looking for the show. You should trust me babe, might be the only one who knows just where to go. Who'll be there, when no one is around? Who'll pick your crazy heart up off the ground? I know its falling, falling, falling through the night when you don't even make a sound. You're the reason why I stick around. Who'll be there, when no one is around? Who'll pick your crazy heart up off the ground? I hear it calling, calling, calling through the night when you don't even make a sound. You're the reason why I'm still around.

Do we know the reasons, why we do the things we do? Buckling under the stresses we put each other through. Biting the bullet and I'm leaving you alone. But I won't pretend that I think you're better off at home. I know your name. It's burnt into the back of my heart. I know your name and I don't believe we'll ever be the same again. I know your name. It's always on the back of my mind. I know your name. But I don't believe I'll let you break my heart again. Millions of people who never walk that country mile. A nod to St. Peter Slip him a wink and a crooked smile. I know the price and, the cost of the things you have to do. That's why forever, I think I'll always be bound to you. I know your name. It's burnt into the back of my heart. I know your name and I don't believe we'll ever be the same again. I know your name. It's always on the back of my mind. I know your name. But I don't believe I'll let you break my heart again. Look to the North, see the light shining from our eyes. I'll always remember it there, reflected in the sky. Walking back home, planning our future with a laugh, a delicate balance, too delicate to last. I know the answers to all of the questions we don't ask. I look to the future, and know I'm looking at the past. Picture you sitting, looking out over your fields at dawn. Both of us missing, all the people who have gone. I know your name. It's carved into the back of my heart. I know your name and I don't believe you'll ever be the same again. I know your name. It's always on the tip of my tongue . I know your name. But I don't believe I'll let you break my heart again. I'll let you break my heart again.

about

This is the debut album of David working under his own name and represents a stylistic change from his previous bands and releases. This time out there is a decided folk-rock feel and instruments such as banjo, mandolin, dobro, upright bass and steel guitar, rub shoulders with David's typical arsenal of electric guitar, electric bass and drums and even the odd synthesizer.

With the opening volly of "Storm-Ridden Woman" with its relentless 6/8 groove, the album deals with lost and found love and broaches many stylistic nuances through-out. The sparse folk-tune "Let It Pass" ramps up dynamically through the rockier folk of "My Longing" and "Here's My Name" to the poppy title song "Tempest Tost". The track "Life On The Spokes" takes that dynamic one step further and introduces a pounding tom and synth bass sonic under the banjo and guitar that never relents until the poignant release of the bridge.

While some of the songs are very big sounding (the rocky "I Don't Want To Think" and the almost nu-country oomph of "I Know Your Name"), the album has several moments of quiet intimacy. "The Thread" is a gentle ballad that uses only acoustic guitar and banjo and the romping instrumental, "Rachel's Stomp", is a bluegrass tune featuring banjo, jug and tambourine.

In all, the album presents a diverse aural landscape rooted in a folk-rock style all the time held in check by David's raspy and eloquent singing.
