about

The latest Synics album features a mix of tunes dating between 1979's punk-jazz band 3C-236's song "Pulse Beat" and 2017's "The Rest of Your Life".

Charter member David Campbell drafted the help of several drummers to realize the album and it was recorded at Harbour Music between January and Febuary with David playing bass live with a drummer and adding vocals and other instruments as overdubs.

The album includes the harder garage-rock of the first album with songs like "Original Sin", "Pulse Beat" and "Never Learned To Fly", and the more countrified "Fair Weather Friends" and "Sons of Eden". This time out David injects the straight-ahead pop of "The Rest of Your Life" and more urban-esque tracks like "Believe", "Dancing In The Sky" and "Tabla Why" which are delivered in a Leonard Cohen meets Robbie Robertson-esque rasp.

Succinct and catchy, the album signals a new era of Synics music both returning to their garage rock roots as well as taking some more stylistic side-roads along the way.

Track Name: Dancing In The Sky
I couldn't see through the dark of the night
or the mist that fell over my eyes
The sheets in the wind and the bottles on the street
and the velvet touch of your thighs.

We were dancing,
we were dancing, dancing in the street

Out on the road they were waiting for us there,
and the sound of their voices haunts me still.
Their was blood in the wind, and the smell of rain,
and I couldn't even sense your pain.

We were dancing,
we were dancing, dancing in the street

I couldn't even venture a guess,
to what is going on in your head.
I could never qualify, but I remember
all the things you said.

Dancing,
we were dancing, dancing in the street

Lift your arms,
spread your wings,
Sail off into the night.
On this roof-top of ours,
with the blood-red flowers,
drifting on this endless flight.

Dancing,
we were dancing, dancing through the sky
Track Name: Believe
What can I say, I've never been told,
I don't wanna grow tired and I'll never grow old.
I never need sleep and I'll never be grey and I'll
never ever give my smoke away.
I don't wanna deceive, I don't wanna believe and if
givings so bad, I don't wanna receive.
It's a matter of time, it's a matter of face
what makes it a crime is just a matter of place.
You want it? You got it.
You got it? You flaunt it.
You need it? You buy it.
You break it, you own it.
If it isn't useless then why did you sell it?
If it's such a secret then why did you tell it?

Didn't want to believe, didn't want to behave
Didn't feel like a fool only wanted to say,
couldn't make up my mind, couldn't force you to stay,
but one of these days I'll be a-walking away.

Livin' inside and livin' a lie,
and the only escape is the day that I die.
I'm feeling so down I'm feeling so wired
and I'm feeling a whole less than inspired.I don't wanna deceive, I don't wanna believe and if
givings so bad, I don't wanna receive.

Track Name: New Catastrophe
Sitting alone in my car
I never wandered too far.
I'm losing count of my scars, I can't believe this happened.
The self-satisfaction of youth,
I never guessed at the truth,
but now all I have is the proof,
I can't believe tho sharpened.

Step lightly don't miss a beat.
Everyday's a new catastrophe.
Enjoy yourself while you can,
anyday the shit will hit the fan.

Now as I fade in the night,
things haven't softened the sight.
Followed you into the light and we both know what good that did.
All of the times you weren't there.
I never thought I would care.
But as I weather your stare, you can
leave when you want to.

Step lightly don't miss a beat.
Everyday's a new catastrophe.
Enjoy yourself while you can,
anyday the shit will hit the fan.
Track Name: Never Learned To Fly
You don't even,
know a thing about me.
Why then me?
God knows I could, never do a thing like that.
Why then me?

I never learned to fly and I could have been a pilot.
I never thought I'd die when I've never to sea.
Never was a wife, and I could have had a baby.
never had a chance to raise my family.

I hate, I hate,
I hate you hated too.
Why then me?
God knows, how we ever let things come to this.
Humans, humans we.

I never learned to fly and I could have been a pilot.
I never thought I'd die when I've never to sea.
Never was a wife, and I could have had a baby.
never had a chance to raise my family.
Track Name: The Rest Of Your Life
I know you're different
I know you're young and
I sense your everything's much better than mine.
I'm treading water,
keeping my hope afloat.
Don't let it sink to the bottom this time.

Sometimes the answer's so easy to see
You take your chances, you're just the same as me.
We're both just shadows so turn out the lights.
What are you doing the rest of the night?

Theres' a solution to every problem.
Sometimes you need to blind to it all.
Under the covers,
keeping my heart afloat.
tangled in everything just waiting to fall.

Sometimes the answer's so easy to see
You take your chances, you're just the same as me.
We're both just shadows so turn out the lights.
What are you doing the rest of the night?
Track Name: Fair Weather Friends
I saw your black cat baby,
you're a really mean machine.
But I can't tell you anything,
my hands don't get that clean.
Can't you see it coming don't you know just what it means?
I can bleed, I can cry, I can beat myself up
but it won't change anything.

I wish I could stay forever.
I think life is so much better
If we can't run away together
we'll just have to stay fair-weather friends
Until the end.
Well I'll be on the road forever,
so fare thee well
my fair-weather friend.

Big bang, black-hole baby,
I just don't know what to do.
I don't want nobody else, but I can't come to you.
Hit the streets a'running 'til there's no town left in sight.
I don't believe I can fix anything girl
but I don't believe that its alright.

I just want to play together.
I think life is so much better
If we can't run away forever,
then we'll just have to stay fair-weather friends
Until the end.
Well I'll be on the road forever,
so fare thee well
my fair-weather friend.
Track Name: Pulse Beat
A track I wrote with Ralph Piedalou way back in Vancouver in 1979 when we were in 3C-236. The main riff came from a jam we were doing and he came up with the basic lyrics. I put the rest of the words and the keyboard part in years later.
lyrics
Pulse Beat the city of desire
the feeling takes me that much higher
pulse beat, pulse beat

lights flash on the towers and the spires
figures dance round the funeral pyres
beat pulse, pulse beat

the city by moonlight, deep within love
the city by moonlight
deep without shove
Track Name: Tabla Why
In the Garden of Eden, had a hard time believin'
how a wonderful woman could take me for a ride
Behind the innocent laughter, kinda knew what came after
so by the end of there chapter I was
all torn up inside.

I know just what she means to me,
and I can't believe,
I let her get away.
And all the times that she needed me,
even I could see,
I really had to stop and wonder….

Why?

Its all a little bit hazy and she thinks that I'm crazy,
well maybe I am 'cause I still want her by my side.
I know I need a cure and,
I know one thing's for sure I,
know I can't look to her she's got an alibi.

I see London I see France, I see Laura's underpants.
See her laughing in her hand?
She could never understand, all the things that she could be,
or all the things she means to me.
Track Name: Sons Of Eden
Sons of Eden won't you lay your bodies down?
The world is changing and it's time to earn your crown.
your office towers over state and over town.
Sons of Eden won't you lay your bodies down?

When everything's at your command,
why would you change it if it just fell in your hand?
You merchant prince, your markets say,
we'll make it to tomorrow if we can just get through today.

Sons of Eden won't you lay your bodies down?
The world is changing and it's time to earn your crown.
your office towers over state and over town.
Sons of Eden won't you lay your bodies down?

When everything's at your command,
why would you change it if it just fell in your hand?
You merchant prince, your markets say,
you're going to have to answer, 'cause you won't me leave this way.
Won't leave me this way.

When everything's at your command,
why would you change it if it just fell in your hand?
You merchant prince, your markets say,
you're going to have to answer, 'cause you won't me leave this way.
Won't leave me this way.
Don't leave me this way.
Don't leave me this way.
Track Name: Original Sin
I, I, I, don't believe in oblivion anymore.
No, I, I, I, don't believe in oblivion anymore.
She came and she walked away.
same thing happens every day.

Come away, come away into the night
Come away, come away into the night.

I, I, I, believe in original sin.
Yes, I, I, I, believe in original sin.
She came and she walked away.
same thing happens every day.
Come away, come away into the night
Come away, come away into the night.
